AS DOOMSDAY approaches, Raval is serving a menu to die for . . . and it will cost the earth!

According to Mayan legend, the world will end at 11.11am on Friday, December 21. That’s when the ancient civilisation’s calendar runs out, a date said to coincide with a galactic alignment that will bring about Armageddon.

To mark the occasion, we’re offering customers a once-in-a-lifetime Final Feast this Thursday evening . . . for an earth-shattering £500 per head.

Restaurant boss Avi Malik said: “We think this could be the most expensive meal ever offered in the region, but if you can’t treat yourself to something a bit special on the last night on earth, when can you?”

The lavish tasting menu will include the finest ingredients, from fresh locally sourced scallops and lobster to organic meats such as duck, lamb and goat, blended with saffron and other exotic spices . . . all washed down with a selection of top-quality fine wines and vintage Champagne.

However, the Gateshead eatery, which overlooks the Tyne Bridge, will also be serving its regular menu for those who question the accuracy of the Mayan prophecy.

Mr Malik added: “Our Final Feast will give customers the opportunity to eat and drink like there’s no tomorrow.

“We already have a reputation as a high-end, luxury restaurant, but this meal will go beyond anything we’ve done in the past . . . it will be out of this world.

“Of course, there will be some doubting Thomases who think the Mayan calendar is wrong. So we’ll also be serving our regular menu, together with Mayan Margaritas at £6.50-a-head, for those who want to enter into the spirit of a Doomsday event without blowing all their cash!”

Among the theories put forward to support the Mayan prophecy is a galactic alignment, which would create chaos on Earth due to the gravitational effect between the Sun and a  black hole called Sagittarius A, located at the center of our galaxy.

Another theory involves a polar shift – a reversal of the north and south magnetic poles. Scientists believe that the Earth is overdue a geomagnetic reversal.
