What started as a fiery dare became a powerful act of giving.

On Tuesday 27 May, Raval Indian Brasserie hosted the UK’s hottest curry challenge. Five brave guests faced The Inferno—a handcrafted dish made with ghost peppers, naga jolokia and scorpion chillies, reaching over 1 million Scoville units.

Only one man finished it: the now-legendary Curry Hell Carl.

But this wasn’t just a challenge. It was a fundraiser for the Great North Children’s Hospital.

Now, the official competition is over, but the cause continues. And you can still get involved.

For the Next 10 Days: Eat It. Fund It. Pass It On.

Eat It
You can now order the Raval Inferno Curry for a limited time.

  • If you finish it? It’s free.
  • Can’t handle the heat? We kindly ask for a £100 donation to the Great North Children’s Hospital via our JustGiving page.

Important: This is no longer a competition and no prizes are awarded. It is a charity fundraising dish only.

You can still help.

  • You must sign a legally binding disclaimer in person at the restaurant.
  • You must confirm via email that you’ve read the full terms: info@ravalrestaurant.com

Why We’re Doing This

The Raval Inferno Curry Challenge is about more than spice.
It’s about community, courage, and compassion.

All proceeds go to the Great North Children’s Hospital through Newcastle Hospitals Charity, supporting young patients and their families across the region.

As one guest put it:

“It was never about the prize — it was about pride, purpose, and giving back. I’m proud to help turn the heat into hope.” — Curry Hell Carl
