Sir Cliff Richard and Hank Marvin at Raval

Sir Cliff Richard has praised a North Indian restaurant as the “best in the world”.

And guitarist maestro Hank Marvin has praised the regeneration of his home town.

The Living Doll star made his comments after popping into Raval Restaurant on Newcastle’s Quayside, with Hank Marvin – also rhyming slang for starving – after this week’s sell-out Cliff Richard and the Shadows reunion shows at the Metro Radio Arena.

Sir Cliff, who was born in Lucknow, India, and spent part of his childhood there, praised the modern cuisine as “outstanding”.

Manager Avi Malik said: “Sir Cliff said our Indian food was real Indian food, the best he had ever tasted, and it was a treat to be here.”

Sir Cliff spotted that the restaurant was serving Lucknow Rogan Josh, a lamb recipe that uses 30 different spices, and the restaurant stayed open late especially for him. We are a regular destination for visiting celebrities but it’s a special boost to get such praise from someone who knows so much about Indian cuisine,” said Mr Malik.SIR Cliff Richard has praised a North Indian restaurant as the “best in the world”.
